Massage therapy means many things to many people. In fact, a recently published scholarly article identifies more than 80 different styles of massage, many of which have been developed in the past 30 years! Massage is often used for specific reasons, such as relief from pain, stress reduction, or enhancement of athletic performance. But whether there is a specific goal or not, massage is a “hands on” treatment in which a therapist manual manipulates soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments) to enhance health and wellbeing. Massage has been practiced as a healing therapy for centuries in nearly every culture around the world. It helps relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and evoke feelings of calmness. Although massage affects the body as a whole, it particularly influences the activity of he musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.
The use of massage for healing purposes dates back 4,000 years in Chinese medical literature and continues to be an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). A contemporary form of massage, known as Swedish massage, was introduced to the United States in the 1850s. By the end of the 19th century, a significant number of American doctors were practicing this manual technique, and the nation’s first massage therapy clinic had opened its doors to the public. There are many different massage and body work techniques. Each technique is uniquely designed to achieve a specific goal. Le Nu Spa is proudly offering the following styles but we can customize your massage, depending on your age, condition, or any special needs or goals you have.

Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West. For the first time at the spa or if you do not get massage very often, Swedish massage is the perfect place to start. This massage is sometimes called “Relaxation Massage”, and is the perfect way for anyone who is overly worked and stressed out to relax their body and mind. It uses five basic movements to increase circulation and, in theory, remove toxins from muscles. The therapist uses firm but gentle pressure, aided by oil to reduce friction, to compress and relax muscles, always stroking in the direction of the heart.
Deep Tissue Massage
- 30 minutes
- $45.00
- 60 minutes
- $85.00
Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. By using deep finger pressure and slow, firm strokes, deep tissue massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the fop’s muscles to loosen up and help increase circulation, release toxins to the targeted area. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.
